Our MFL Curriculum
At Barnwell Academy, it is our intent to deliver a high-quality, authentic, culturally broadening and practical Modern Foreign Language curriculum that is aspirational and successfully adapted for all pupils so as to provide opportunities for children to understand and respond to spoken and written Spanish from an authentic source.
Spanish is taught discretely each week by a native speaking, language specialist in a coherently planned and sequenced set of logical steps in order to develop children’s knowledge, confidence, fluency and skills in listening to, speaking and writing Spanish.
At the heart of our Spanish curriculum is the cultivation of a depth of knowledge regarding spoken language. Children are taught to find ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
It is our belief that the impact of our high expectations equips children with the technical knowledge and depth of experience needed to provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping our pupils to study and work in other countries or at an international level.
